Personal Data Protection Policy
We know that privacy is important to you. Make-A-Wish Foundation respects the privacy of all our beneficiaries, including our wish children, donors, volunteers, supporters and event participants. We are committed to safeguarding the information you, your child/ward or your company’s representatives have given to us. This Personal Data Protection Policy (“Policy”) aims to help you understand our approach to collecting, using and disclosing your Personal Information. The Personal Information which you, your child/ward, or the representatives of your company provides, determines whether from now on, or previously will be used and processed, and continued to be used and processed by us, in accordance with this Policy. We will take reasonable care to prevent the loss or misuse of your Personal Information. We may amend, vary, revise or update this Policy from time to time. If we revise the Policy, we will post the changes on our website and it will be the latest version of the Policy which would apply at any given time.
1. Personal Information
1.1 What is Personal Information? Personal Information means information about you, your child/ward and/or your company’s representatives. This includes an individual’s name, home address, phone number, identification number, medical history, job details, financial information, educational history, etc.
1.2 How your Personal Information is collected? The Personal Information we collect from you will be information that is, has been or may be collected by us or third parties who work with Make-A-Wish Foundation, or which you provide to us or our commissioned third party agencies from time to time, in connection with any donation, service, transaction, survey, questionnaire or communication with us, and will include, but not be limited to, the following situations:
(a) When you register to be a beneficiary/donor/supporter/volunteer/event participant of Make-A-Wish Foundation;
(b) When you register your interest with us to obtain information and updates;
(c) Information collected when you visit our website;
(d) Information collected when you respond to surveys or questionnaires from us or our third party agencies;
(e) At the point in time when you provide the information to any of our third party partners in relation to Make-A-Wish Foundation activities; and
(f) Any inquiry or communication made with or to us pursuant to or consequential to any transaction mentioned above.
1.3 The Purposes of Collecting and Processing Your Personal Information
The purposes for which we collect your Personal Information are set out below:
(a) To grant a wish to a beneficiary;
(b) To communicate with you and to respond to your queries;
(c) To process your donation, application, inquiry or request;
(d) To provide information and updates via email, postal mail or text messaging relating to Make-A-Wish Foundation activities and events;
(e) To carry out any services you requested in relation; to your status as a beneficiary/donor/supporter/volunteer/event participant of Make-A-Wish Foundation;
(f) For administration of your donation including processing of tax rebates with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (“IRAS”);
(g) To conduct surveys, research and statistical analysis with the aim of helping us monitor and improve our fund raising activities and event organisation; and
(h) The purposes as specified in our campaigns and events or at the time the Personal Information is collected.
Make-A-Wish Foundation does not sell, rent or lease our beneficiaries/ donors/ volunteers/ supporters/ event participants list to third parties. We may share Personal Information with trusted partners such as our donors, volunteers, contractors, service providers, consultants (including our medical consultants), auditors and professional advisors etc. on a need to know basis, for the purpose of wish granting, helping us perform statistical analysis, sending you emails or postal mail, provide administrative support or similar services. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except in the course of providing services to Make-A-Wish Foundation. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information. We may also share your Personal Information with the IRAS, the National Council of Social Services (“NCSS”) and other relevant authorities or government organisations. We will not share your personal information with other entities.
In certain circumstances, such as for the purpose of granting a travel wish, your information may also be shared with Make-A-Wish International or other Make-A-Wish affiliates.
Make-A-Wish Foundation may also be obliged to disclose your personal information, if required to do so by law or in good faith, where such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Make-A-Wish Foundation; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Make-A-Wish Foundation; and, (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Make-A-Wish Foundation, or the public.
3. Update of Your Personal Information
We make every reasonable effort to ensure that Personal Information is accurate and complete. We rely on you to notify us if there is a change to your Personal Information that may affect your relationship with Make-A-Wish Foundation. If you are aware of an error in our records about you, please let us know and we will correct it on request wherever possible. In some cases we may ask for a written request for correction.
4. General Consent
By giving or making available your Personal Information to us, you expressly agree and consent to the collection, use, processing and disclosure of your Personal Information in accordance with the terms of this Policy, including but not limited to, consenting to receiving communications and materials from us from time to time. You also represent that you have obtained the consent or your child/ward or other third party whose details you may provide to us for such collection, use, processing and disclosure of their Personal Information.
