Art, the Preschool Way!
The Preschool at the Australian International School Singapore adopts a
local charity annually to be the beneficiary of all their fundraising
efforts throughout the year. The staff, children aged 3 to 5
years and their families are proud to be partnering with Make-A-Wish,
for the third consecutive year! One of the biggest events on
their calendar is the Preschool Art Exhibition, which showcases the
children’s individual art work, class and family projects in
a
setting created to resemble a real art gallery. The
Preschoolers
also work together with the MAW children to create works that are then
auctioned at the official opening of the Art Exhibition. |

Citibank-YMCA
Youth For Causes 2010
Out of 100 groups
selected for the 2010 programme, Make-A-Wish
Foundation® is pleased to be adopted by 4 teams this year
– BrighTEN,
J’espere, Dre(a)m Team, and Tanpopo Dandelion. Over
the course of four
months beginning June 2010, these teams comprising of different
institutions will be putting their creativity and social entrepreneur
skills into action to raise as much funds as possible.
By
conducting street sales and selling a myriad of products like badges,
t-shirts, cards and accessories, the students hope to do their little
part for the Foundation in fulfilling its cause in brightening the
lives of children.

Fundraising at The British Club
Several fundraising activities continue
to take place, throughout the year at The British Club in support of
the club's charities: Gurkha Welfare Trust in the UK, and Make-A-Wish
Foundation in Singapore. Through these ongoing promotions we have seen
even more members volunteering with the foundation, either as Wish
Granters or as administrative helpers in the office.
On a weekly basis the club organises quizzes for both children and
adults. Each family contributes $2 per evening, to take part in the
quiz and over the last four years, this has helped to raise thousands
of dollars for the charities. Groups such as the Scuba Diving Section
and the Craft Ladies of The British Club have done their part to raise
money through their annual activities. More recently, the Craft Ladies
ran a very successful cake stall at the club’s
‘Annual Family Day’. Committee members and
management took turns to sit on the dunking machine and gamely
‘got dunked’ for the charities!
At the gala Red, White and Blue Ball, the club’s premiere
event, high-valued items donated by individuals and companies were
auctioned for charity. At Christmas time, the club ran an appeal for
the Christmas presents for the annual Make-A-Wish®
Children’s Christmas Party. Over 200 gifts were donated by
members of the club ranging from computer games to Barbie dolls to
clothes and gift vouchers.
Being a family club, our staff and members take immense satisfaction
from being involved with the foundation. Our contribution in our unique
way comes from the heart – a true reflection of the work of
the foundation itself.

Ang Mo
Kio Police Division
‘WISHING UPON A TREE’ Charity Fundraising Event
Foxtrot Active Volunteers (FAVe), from Ang Mo Kio Police Division, have
once again organised a fundraising event for Make-A-Wish. In October
the ‘Wishing Upon A Tree’ campaign was
mounted to raise funds for 14 year old Gary whose special wish
was to have
a customised wheelchair.
Campaign committee members and volunteers rallied every Ang Mo Kio
Police Division officer to contribute voluntarily to the cause.
Officers responded emphatically by buying special coloured leaves. They
penned down their well wishes to Gary on the leaves that were then
placed on the initially bare tree.
The result was rather awe-inspiring as the sheer number of coloured
leaves grew and $6,000 was raised from the campaign.
A Wish Party for Gary and three other children for whom wishes were
also granted, followed the fundraising. FAVe
advisor, Deputy Superintendent Lim Hong Ling, concluded “I am
very glad that Make-A-Wish and Gary have given officers from Ang Mo Kio
Division an opportunity to volunteer and do something special for him.
We hope to introduce more officers to volunteering and doing special
things for special people.” |

Dishan’s
Birthday Party
Dishan celebrated his 2nd birthday and Diwali on 19th
October.
Diwali, which means ‘Festival of Lights’, is when
Indians light up diyas to overcome the bad. Family and friends were
invited to the celebrated and were requested to make a
donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®
instead of bringing
gifts.
As the guests walked in to the party, they very kindly left their
cheques and money
in the Make-A-Wish donation box. The entertainer at the
party performed magic tricks and also make balloons for all
the
kids.
Everyone was really very excited, including the adults too!
As our guests left, the kids each got a goodie bag and gift
too.
The wonderful party raised $4627.88 which help to make the
wish
for a room makeover came true for our wish child.

Art
Exhibition by Koh Tien Gui
Tien Gui's latest show is inspired by recent encounter with the
beautiful
children he met from the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The art, as a whole, deal with children, each in its own way, depicting
and/or suggesting either longings, needs, hopes, fears and expectations
that surround their world. The artist have
deliberately tried to keep the drawings cheerful but, at the
same time, keep the realities of their existence. The
drawings are in aid of each and every child that
Make-A-Wish wants to help and have raised a total of $3,910. |

benefit Make-A-Wish at this event, donating a very generous sum of
$20,000, and adopting four wonderful wishes –
Sharon’s wish to have a
chalet experience, Faith’s wish to have independence through
a
motorised wheelchair, Wei Jun’s wish to have a room makeover
in a Tom

jones
the grocer’s 1st
Birthday
On 6th October 2008
jones
the grocer, a gourmet store and cafe at Dempsey Hill, turned 1!
In honour of their first birthday, jones invited loyal customers and
VIPs to an evening of celebration during which they held an auction to
raise funds for Make-A-Wish. Whilst
gourmet canapés, wonderful wine, chilled champagne and
fine
cheeses were passed around, items which included a magnum of champagne,
a signed Ferrari cap and Jaime Olivers’ cookbooks went up for
Auction. During the course of the auction there was also the
opportunity for guests to adopt three wishes – a party with
Dora
and Barney, a MacBook laptop
and a
trip to visit Hello Kitty Land in Tokyo. In a very short period of
time, the funds required for all three wishes were very generously
donated.
By the end of the fabulous evening a sum of $16,250 was raised. We
would like to extend a big ‘thank you’ to jones the
grocer and their customers for their wonderful support and kind
generosity.

JP
Morgans’ Halloween Charity
Event
The Halloween committee members and volunteers, dressed in creative and
vivid costumes, walked around JPM SG premises, their
trick-or-treat sacks filling fast. The outcome? A grand total of
$40,000 in donations!
The highlights of the day were the tokens of appreciation being
presented for donations above $20. The likes of angel wings and wands,
pirate hats and hooks and little Make-A-Wish stuffed toys ran out even
before the committee could say ‘thank you’!
There were
also prizes for the best dressed male and female, and for the floor
team with the highest amount collected in donations. With a frenzy of
competition, combined with efforts for a noble cause, the atmosphere
was truly buzzing with a feeling of togetherness, warmth, fun and
generosity.
Following the success of the event, JPM SG was able to grant eight
wishes from the Make-A-Wish wish-list. The wishes ranged from buggies
or wheelchairs, to a trip to Disneyland HK and even a room makeover.
With 100% of the donations going towards granting the
childrens’
wishes, all wishes brought immense joy to each child and to an extent,
eased the physical and financial burden on their parents. The end
result - a few priceless smiles!
A prelude to the coming holiday season, Halloween Charity
event, once again, proved that goodwill still exists in the world and
it is in such good measure. |

Insure2give
Buy your insurance needs online and DONATE
As the name suggests, insure2give
was formed to provide you with competitive insurance cover and generate
much needed donations for Charity.
Here’s how it works:-
When your Insurance agent or broker sells you a policy they get a
commission from the Insurance Company. When we sell a policy we also
receive a commission; the only difference is we donate 25% of our
commissions to Charity. To make this possible insure2give runs a low
cost operation offering insurance over the internet. Using the internet
means we don’t need to pay sales agents or have expensive office
space. So the money we save creates our donation.
As well as giving to Charity, we also make sure you get the most competitive rates.
To do this we've teamed up with some of Singapore’s largest and
most respected insurance companies dealing in motor, medical, home,
travel and personal accident insurance; so you know you’re
getting a good deal.
insure2give was therefore created with the specific intention of serving the Singapore community in two very distinct ways:
1. To deliver a quality product, in a fast and efficient manner, at a competitive price
2. To provide much needed additional funding for Singapore’s important charity sector
When visiting this website you need only select the charity you wish to
support, buy or renew your insurance through insure2give and we then
donate 25% of our commission to your chosen cause. You don’t even
have to wait for your renewal date to come along. If you have an
existing policy with one of our providers you can start to work with us
today by completing our ‘Renew with Insure2give’ form.
Completing this form does not change your existing policy; it simply
allows us to quote for the renewal premium. Upon acceptance we’ll
then donate to the charity of your choice. It is also important to
point out that this donation is made, not just on the first
transaction, but every time you buy or renew through insure2give, year,
after year, after year.
So by simply choosing to buy or renew through insure2give you’ll
be donating to a good cause, helping those in need and getting yourself
a good deal in the process.

Pick Me
Up Team Making the impossible
POSSIBLE
The Pick Me Up Team conducted their first book event at HARRIS
Bookstore at SUNTEC City Mall on Saturday 22nd March 2008, from 2.00pm
to 3.30pm. One of the highlights of the book event was the cheque
presentation of S$45,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation®.
Through
the Pick Me Up campaign from 11 January 2008 to 2 February 2008, a
commitment of 60% of the net proceeds was donated to the Foundation, to
make more Wish Children’s dreams come true. The Lee
Foundation
also generously donated S$15,000 to the Foundation in conjunction with
their book campaign while the public contributed $3,000 directly to
Make-A-Wish
Foundation®.
Their first cheque of $5,500 was donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation
Singapore on 26th January 2008 to fulfil the dream of a special 11 year
old girl who has bone cancer. The $5,500 cheque helped to turn her
bedroom into a themed room designed after the hit Disney series,
‘High School Musical’. |
 |
The Pick Me Up campaign was run with the intention of reaching out to
the world and inspiring people to make a difference in their lives. The
Pick Me Up team’s unstoppable action is a shout out to the
world to unite everyone in a single social voice – a stand
for possibility. The Pick Me Up team scored many firsts in this mammoth
undertaking, and here are just a few of them:
* Writing a book in 24 hours
* Organizing a public book event
* Hitting sales of over 1000 books in 1
month even before the book was available in bookshops
* Sharing miracles to the public such as
how a man who lost his sense of smell during a car incident had it
restored on the spot through coaching.
Thank you Pick Me Up Team for inspiring us and demonstrating to us that
the seemingly impossible can be made POSSIBLE if there is a determined
will. We consider ourselves privileged to be a part of your campaign.
Thank you again for choosing us as your beneficiary.

Kilimanjaro Climb – Warm Hearts Brave the Cold
A team from Temasek Holdings, led by Senior Managing Director, Michael

through a unique adventure. The team, known as the ‘TEAMasek
Trailblazers’, braved sub zero temperatures to successfully
climb
Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) over 7 days, raising over $335,000 for
Make-A-Wish®.
Inspired by Make-A-Wish®’s cause, the team rallied
their organisation and others to donate generously. A
significant
corporate sponsor was Neptune Orient Lines, who donated |

|
$50,000.
Beyond
donating financially, employees of Temasek Holdings (TOUCH Volunteers)
have also begun to volunteer as Wish Granters.
By challenging themselves to climb the tallest free standing mountain
in the world, the TEAMasek Trailblazers have made their personal wish
and the wishes of more than 70 Make-A-Wish®
beneficiaries a reality. Make-A-Wish® Singapore
is tremendously grateful for this tremendous effort and achievement!
