Wish Ball

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

The above quote easily summarizes the importance of the Celton Wish Ball, held on 24th September with the kindness and generosity of the Celton Group and the chief  organiser, Dr Frank Cintamani.

“Truly magical,” were on the lips of several guests when they stepped into the ballroom of dreams and saw the beautiful fairytale castle stage setting.

The evening began with live entertainment from the delightful Dim Sum Dollies. This was followed by a live auction,
conducted by Tim Bourne from Christies Hong Kong. With a stunning lineup of fourteen luxurious items, each paired with a beautiful wish to adopt, everyone was eager to start the charitable extravaganza. The indisputable star of the night, a $30,000 Tiff any’s diamond watch, was won by an anonymous telephone bidder with a staggering $80,000 bid!

Over $460,000 was raised during this truly unforgettable evening, enabling Make-A-Wish® to turn more dreams into reality for our wish kids. Our deepest thanks go to all the guests, sponsors, and volunteers who made it such a wonderful evening. Only through them, can we go such a long way and put so many smiles on the faces of so many of our Wish Children.

Stories of Light 2006 – “Beaming a Beacon of Hope”
With the support of our Main Sponsor ‘SOXAL’, in 2006, we produced a special Make-A-Wish® Book-Light to serve as a symbol of hope to the Wish Children. This is the first time we produced and sold our own merchandise on such a widespread scale and now, thousands of people will be using our cute book-lights to illuminate their books as they read. The pocket sized light proved to be a popular Christmas gift and many stores had customers coming back for more!

The Book-Lights were distributed all over Singapore at Times The Bookshop, Sa Sa Cosmetic, Courts stores, as well as at Grand Hyatt Singapore, The British Club and NTU and were available in return for every $4 donation. As part of the campaign, we also held storytelling sessions at Times The Bookshop stores with specially created inspirational tales of wishes and dreams coming true.

Stories of Light 2005 – “Musical Magic”

‘Stories of Light’ is a concept initiated by our Make-A-Wish affiliates in the US. Their campaigns have varied in scale – from illuminating entire buildings to lighting up hundreds of stars on trees as donations are pledged.

Musical Magic in 2005
This was the first time that we had launched ‘Stories of Light’ in Singapore. Members of the public could ‘adopt’ a note of the Make-A-Wish song, until the entire musical score was sponsored.

  • The Stories of Light 2005 campaign raised over $30,000
  • A special website dedicated to the campaign lit up the donor’s names above their adopted notes Website hits doubled during the campaign to over 46,000 per month.
  • People came together from all over Singapore to reach into their hearts and minds to help support the campaign
  • Students dressed up as Make-A-Wish Fairies to help raise awareness.
  • The grand finale was bought to a vibrant close with a jubilant rendition of the Make-A-Wish song with all sponsors, supporters, committees, celebrities and volunteers joining in.
